Getting Ready to Go on Vacation

Do you have a routine for getting ready to go on vacation?

As I leave this Friday to celebrate with my husband's large family on the shores of Lake Michigan, I have already begun my preparations.

I have washed and packed all of our clothes including  new underwear and socks. It never fails that one of my many sister-in-laws will have kindly done our laundry while we are out for the day. I don't want to be embarrassed. We will wear our old socks and underwear and whatever clothes are left in our drawers until Friday.

Today I made a trip to Khols to buy a fashionable accessory in the anticipation of giving hope to the fashionistas who are my loved ones. I wore Capi pants to a standing ovation last year. I did, however, make a side trip "Thank you Dear Lord" to  purchase a shiny white pair of the Ked like sneakers I am known for.

I have also been on a mission to empty my fridge. This serves two purposes. By Friday I should have lost enough weight to fit more comfortably into my new Khols outfit. We are down to eating chicken leftovers and lettuce. Secondly my husband will be taking me out to dinner giving our near to exhausted dishwasher a well needed rest. She will be ordering chicken and lettuce.

I have readied enough car snacks for a trip across country,  packed decks of cards and games, emptied the grocery store shelves of all summer pot boilers, and have recharged my camera one last time.

All of the beds have been stripped and remade. I love coming home to my house after vacation and feeling as though I am entering a Model Home.

As I dust my way out my garage entrance door, I will leave with the security of knowing any fingerprints found on my return will belong to a house robber, and he won't get away!

So do please enjoy your own 4th of July celebrations. I can't wait to get back and share my family adventures as well as visit to read about your own.

"Why Santas?", you ask. Christmas in July, of course! I do hope you enjoy these very easy to make vintage inspired cuties. I plan to surround my Santas with white buttons for snow. Ah snow! You do know I love snow!

We are going to Maryland to visit our grandsons for the 4th. I start laying things (not clothes) to take on the dining room table. So far I have small American flags to wave at their local parade, a giant red, white and blue pinwheel to stick in the front yard, a silly headband with red, white and blue streamers attached (that's for the silly grandmother to wear) and some new Cars II stickers. The neccessities for visiting grandsons.
I hope you have a great time and come back with lots of stories. Have fun in your new Kohl's outfit.
Your parade of cutie pie Santas is making me think ahead, too. Big craft fair in 5 months...can't start too early!

Ah snow...we are all thinking alike. July means Christmas right? Well at least to a crafter it does. These Santas are perfect situated in their clay suits and accessorized with chenille stems. I am sure that will be just as gorgeous...enjoy! I thought of you today as my primary chair colors posted...smiles...Renee

Wishing you a wonderful time on the lake!

I always have to leave my house in perfect order before I leave! Why? no one will be there? Go figure...

have fun ♥

Haha! I just drafted a Christmas in July post myself, Elizabeth! Of course, I now have to go back and look at the instructions for the Santa because, as I always do, I get so caught up in your writing. Those are all good tips for getting ready to go away. I don't have a set ritual, except for going over my days worth of outfits several times before I zip the luggage shut!

adorable santas! i have to laugh ... i can't leave a dirty house to go on vacation ... it MUST be clean before i go ... dear hubby doesn't understand why i put more pressure on myself and do all that extra work before going ... how do you explain that feeling we women get when we get back from an exhausting but fun time away ... and open the front door to a clean home? it's like your home is waiting for you with open arms and whispers "welcome home!"

Such cute Santas! Have a great time on your vacation. I am originally from Michigan and we go up to the beach several times each summer.

Your post reminds me of an Erma Bombeck book I read. She would go out and buy new underwear for her family before they went on a trip, any trip, even a day trip. So funny! I also clean my house before we leave. The last thing I want to come home to when I'm tired is a messy house!

I remember when you went last year. You talked abo about how wonderful your sisters-in-law. Have a wonderful time. Sounds like you have things in order at home. But if you go out to eat don't eat chicken and lettuce, hah. Safe travels.

Miss E,
Yet another darling ornament. You just never cease to amaze me. And the way you can put instruction along with a story and have it all work beautifully is really something! I just opened my Snornament, and I love it so much. I kept the box sitting there unopened for two days, just waiting for me. I love having something to look forward to. I waited for just the right moment when I could sit and enjoy it, and believe me I did and I do. I thank you so much my friend, and I will treasure it always. Have a wonderful vacation!!!! Renew, refresh, rejuvenate, but don't forget to return!!!

Your Christmas in July Santas are very jolly!! I know what you mean about cleaning up before you leave. I'm the same way, but I have other reasons...I don't want whoever comes over to feed the cat and water the plants to think I am a messy housekeeper. And I had to giggle over the new underthings. I spruce up the wardrobe before I leave too. :-)

oh, E. I was so in love with the Santas that I could not pay attention to the trip. I LOVE them. I must try some. I am a Christmas all year round kind of gal. I will go back and read again!!!

Oh Miss E,
I finally got a peaceful, quiet moment to open up my package from you. I think I mentioned to you already I love to leave surprises unopened, sitting there for me to see, wondering about the contents. I love the excitement of imagining what it will be, and I love looking forward to the actual opening and admiring. I hate to do it in the middle of a busy time when I can't fully focus on the actual gift. I just opened it up and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. As I told you I was planning, it is sitting right here beside my computer in my bedroom, where I will see it many many times each day. It will remind me to use my time wisely. I am also going to have it remind me that time is precious and to use it on things that make me happy as well as all those other things I must do for everyone else. Thank you so so much for your wonderful gift. I cannot tell you how much I love and appreciate it! You have a very lovely and generous soul, and I feel lucky to have met you. Thank you.
Julie
