Home Alone Crafting

My husband and I have only known a Marriage of Separations all our years together. There is a comforting rhythm in place that sustains us our days apart. It begins with a farewell embrace and kiss goodbye that encompasses all of the memories we have shared.

My husband knows that I will use his bathroom the days he is gone and will leave a note there for me to find. Sweeter still, upon opening his medicine cabinet, I will find all the notes he has left for me taped inside the door. His handwriting at once descriptive of his strong character and loyalty to me.

I won't hear from my husband his first day away as he travels across the ocean and settles into his Away From Home routine. But every day thereafter, at just about the same time, the telephone will ring; and I know it will be him. "This is your morning Wake-Up Call!"

I will share with my husband all the news I have heard from our children, and he will share all the news he has heard from our children. We have the exact same news, but we delight in how each of our children interacts with us in their own special way.

At the end of our conversation, my husband will ask the question he asks of me every day, "What are your plans for your day?" and I will answer "Oh, it's a crafting day."

A familiar answer whether my husband is gone away or close to me at home; but it signals to my husband that all is right in my world. All is right in his.

  6. These ducks are so sweet, Elizabeth! It's tough when husbands {or wives} travel quite a bit. Mine does occasionally and I take the opportunity at those times to craft away. Since I only have to worry about feeding myself, I keep going until I get hungry and then can go back to creating if I feel like it.

  26. E, the paper clay has been in the drawer for about three months; I am now ready to try it! I used some clay before in a Snornament type guy. Now I feel braver, no instructions on the box was daunting!
