Driving to our hometown's football game this evening, my husband expressed that he was sorry he will be out of town for my birthday. He glanced over at me and asked, "How old are you going to be?"
I answered him in the manner I do when anyone asks me this question, "I'm in my late 50's". My husband looked at me again, "You're not in your late 50's, why do you tell people you are?"
My response begins, "Well they say 50 is the New Thirty, and I absolutely don't look like I'm 30; so I say nearly 60 which is the New 40 which I'm much closer to than 30.
My husband looks at me quizzically, "Why don't you just tell people your real age?"
I continue, "If I tell people I am much older than I actually am, they'll think I look good for my age. When I'm 60 I'm going to say I'm nearly 70 which is the new 50, you know. It's why I've retired from working so early. I want to be even with you, 65!"
My Dear Sweet Husband turned once again towards me and said, "As long as we have many more years together, I don't care how old you are!"

ReplyDeleteI think your husband had the perfect response to a touchy subject. Hope you have a wonderful birthday
ReplyDeleteAwwww How sweet! =]
ReplyDeleteYour husband gave just the right answer to your fun take on what age you are.
ReplyDeleteYou are the first person I've ever heard of that exagerates to make their age a higher number! What a brilliant idea, if I say 60 by adding a few years they say I look fabulous! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteVery Cute E! I think he said the exact right thing. I also think you can be in your late 50's for as long as you want! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove these new spooky creations too!

Happy Sweet Birthday!! Hope your day if full of craftiness, and joy! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Elizabeth! Sounds like you have a real sweet husband. Enjoy every age - it's all good!
ReplyDeleteI think teaching kindergarten and hanging out with little kids all the time has warped my sense of age, too. I notice even the way I dress is young at heart. The other day a past kinder kid brought me a bright green hair bow with cherries on it. What was I to do? I had to wear it! Young at heart and playful is a good thing, I think. And, you bring out the child in me, too.
ReplyDeleteOh...Just look at all those polka dots! You have so many fresh ideas as you have created each lovable pal. All your darling characters are bursting with fun, laughter and whimsy. Your crow is just the best...Definitely, my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting a big smile on my face!
Blessings,
Carolynn xo

How cute those black cats are, Elizabeth! I like your answer! : ) Sometimes I actually have to think about how old I am.
ReplyDeleteI am wishing you the happiest of birthdays younger by the year. Just the perfect explanation...smiles...Renee
ReplyDeleteHee hee! Happy birthday! I always tell people I am 10 years older than I am. Then when they say how great I look for 52, I answer, "I KNOW! Can you believe it!" HA HA HA! You and your sweetie are just too cute for words.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet your husband is! My favorite saying is, "Old age is always ten years older than I am". That way you never get old! Happy, healthy birthday and year ahead!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckle E!! All that math, my goodness...I'd forget how old I REALLY am! LOL My age used to bother me, but now I don't care! Anyhoo, Happy Birthday to Youuuuu! And I looove that Ghostie! He is soooo cute! As are all of the Halloween cuties in every corner of every picture. And what a sweet hubby-he knows the right things to say!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs!!!
Age is just another number that I could care less about (the other number being my weight!LOL!) Your fab creations could only come out of someone very young at heart & mind. Husbands can be great sometimes (and yours was!)My husband has always contended that I never grew up & often jokes that he is married to an eleven year old.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful birthday!
your fan,
Cathy
lol, i'm with you all the way! :p
ReplyDeleteLOL....you are something else! What lovelies! Love that shaker! He reminds me of Mr. Boo Pumpkin! :):)
ReplyDeleteYour husband is a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteI think you and I are pretty close in age. I always tell my real age because most people don't believe me anyway.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Your comments always make me smile.
Wishing you a very happy birthday!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet husband you have, Elizabeth! I hope you have the best birthday ever! Love the cute ghost that you made too. Have a fabulous weekend!
ReplyDeleteHappy BDay E! My hubs always tells people he thinks he looks pretty good for 70. (he is in his mid fifties) People react in so many different ways it always makes him (and them) laugh.
ReplyDeleteOh, he's a "keeper !" Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one. Better to elicit surprise than sympathy. What a sweetie you have there. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tender moment. Don't you just love when they end a conversation with a sweet, icing on the cake comment!
ReplyDeleteMakes for a perfect day!
Maureen
Happy birthday! Your creations are so precious, I wish I had all of them!
ReplyDeleteI totally do the same thing implying my age is older. I'd rather look good for my age than be one of those people that implies younger and you go sheesh she looks tore up.
ReplyDeleteReally, this article is very relevant as ever.
