The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis

I am filled with joy today. How one small craft room and very few supplies have created so much happiness for me is just, well, astonishing!

These craft room characters of mine seem to come about of their own volition. I don't know who they will be when I sit down at my beloved craft desk; but step by step they reveal themselves to me, and I smile. I simply smile. I ask you, could a paper snowman be more adorable?

He nearly wasn't created at all. Michael's no longer carries the easy to use paper clay I have always purchased. Bringing home their replacement product resulted in such disappointment, I threw the package in the trash! After work today I gave it one more go, and I will share my tips with you. 1. Kneed a small amount until it becomes soft and pliable. Pick out any hard lumps of paper. 2. Flatten as thin as possible and position on your Styrofoam shape. 3. Use forefinger to press paper into surface. It will be slightly sticky. (Note the paper on my fingers.) 4. Repeat until surface is covered.

Smiling here! Tip: Keep a lookout for for vintage buttons that are flat such as these. They are my very favorite to use in crafting. There is just something special about them.

There are several complete tutorials on my sidebar for the steps to my paper clay snowmen. If you do happen to make one; and if you happen to have a spare belt buckle waiting to be used,

you just have to make a Snornament! Stanley has gone all out for his last appearance here. He is all about self-confidence as his own special holiday draws near.

With this advertisement, True Love is sure to find him!

Last evening my husband and I took our Twirly Swirly Girl and her Joe out for their First Month Anniversary to the very restaurant where Joe asked for her hand in marriage. They are both so shy, it is as though God is letting my husband and I watch ourselves falling in love all over again.

The Heart of Ohio, it has hung over my shoulder all of my time here. My days have been blessed since coming to this place. I am more thankful than I can express.

Hi Elizabeth,
How wonderful for you and your husband to share such a special day at such a special place in the life of your daughter and new son- in-love! You two are soo lucky to be able to share these special times together.

I just get so much inspiration and joy when I visit your wonderful blog. I have been introduced to wonderful characters, collections, and regular household items that I would have not paid attention to in the past but because of you and your wonderful blog, I am drawn to vintage kitchenware, vintage books, vintage cards, vintage valenttines, and vintage flash cards! Before your blog, I would have never thougth to use them in my paper crafting. Oh my favorite new obession because of you and your new blog, vintage baby nursery planters!! My husband told me to tell you Thank YOu when I presented him with My Christmas Wish List last weekend!!
Thank you again for sharing your crafts, creativity, and your stories with me.
Hugs,
Lynn

Through your encouragement, I have bought my paper clay and my styrofoam balls. Now I need to get the courage to try one... How do you get your's glittery? (Is that a word, if not it should be, I like it!). Do you mix glitter into the paint, or add glitter after you paint?

Blessings

That first banner was what caught my eye..and pulled on my heartstrings. And who would of thought...A girl from Ohio..City girl at that...and me a country bumpkin girl from Texas.
Both so much friendship to give...in so many different ways.
We are story tellers in our own ways...all generations need them!!!!
Love that you and hubby took the kids out to eat!! What memories.

You mentioned Doby Gillis...I remember watching that in the afternoons.I wasn't into boys yet...but I do remember him being cute!lol

Snowmen are still my favorite...someday I want to do this paper clay stuff...not much room here in the house on wheels.

Hugs and squeezes from Texas..Cindy from Rick-Rack and Gingham

Just an email away!! smiles

I haven't used paper clay for awhile. It may be time to dig it out again...if it hasn't dried up. I hate it when stores discontinue products I've grown to depend on. I squawk about it...but I don't get very far. Oh, well! We soldier on...we problem solve and we use our creativity to do even better things. =D

I love the title many a nights suffering from insomnia as a teenager I watched Dobie Gillis. I loved Maynard, Zelda, Milton and Thalia who would make me laugh until sleep finally came (usual around 4 in the morning.) Thank you for the tip on paper clay mine have been coming out with a lot of creases which is ok if making zombies not so good when trying to make a futuristic doll. A visit to you craft room is a must in the in morning it greets me like a sunshine on a cloudy day. Thank you again for the stories, crafts and inspiration that you share.

Hi Elizabeth,

I just love looking at your blog everyday and seeing what you create with what you have laying around. It just amazes me, everything is so darling. Is the holly berry nose you used for the snowman vintage or did you purchase it somewhere?

Hi Elizabeth,

You are the most creative soul alive. I noticed the barn in your picture. I believe it is one not far from my house on Airport Hwy. It has become a very sad thing. The owners have not maintained it. Sadly it looks a fright now.

I wanted to thank you for all the wonderful posts. Also wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Blessings,
Shelley
