Big Brother, Little Sister
My Twirly Swirly Girl loves marshmallows. She always has. In fact she loves them so much, my newlywed son has said the best thing about being married is having cereal with marshmallows in them. They were never there in his childhood spent with his sister.
It has been such fun to witness an older brother and younger sister redefine their relationship with each other now that they are both married. Kellye's husband being one year older than her brother has put her on a nearly even playing field.
My husband and son went together to a hockey game one evening this week, and my son called during a break in the game to be sure and pass on his love to Kellye next I spoke with her. He said they would have to double date sometime in the near future. My heart nearly melted.
This past month on my birthday, my son gave me a card with more than just his usual scrawled name script. "Mom, Thank you for giving me the most wonderful childhood anyone could ever ask for. I wouldn't have it any other way except maybe my allowance job was ONLY recycling and Kellye's was EVERYTHING ELSE." Love you, Chris.
Well, some things never change!
DIRECTIONS: Cut two 1 1/2" circles (one can be tan). Cut 2" strip, length slightly longer than circumference of circle. Fold length in half to find center, stitch face. Place short edge of side strip directly opposite face center on circle piece. Using small, shallow button stitches, stitch circle to side strip with wrong side facing you. Trim excess side strip when short ends meet. IMPORTANT Use a running stitch piercing each stitch already made so that there is a stitch seen on both sides of circle. (French seam) This step will allow the felt to be turned to the right side without stitches being seen. LEAVING SHORT EDGE OPEN stitch second circle to side edge. Turn marshmallow right side out. Stuff with fiberfill, tack stitch opening closed. Pierce felt to insert arm and leg pipe stems. (OPTIONAL finishing touch. With a single strand of floss, insert needle in seam created between circle and side strip on marshmallow top, bring needle out in bottom seam of marshmallow. Continue around seam from top to bottom, bottom to top slightly pulling thread as you go.)
