Homefront

This month's tag recalls to mind my most favorite television series of all time, Homefront. It tells the story of the Metcalf family from Ohio and the patterns of their days during World War II.  Beautifully filmed with characters to love and hate, a dreamy Big Band score I can still hear in my head.

My favorite character was Ginger, a shop girl dreaming of fame and fortune. Her wardrobe to die for, she was the type of girl to wear red lipstick when it was considered to be racy.

The most fun about Ginger was watching her fall in love with childhood friend Jeff Metcalf who at once could irritate her to no end and then melt her heart in the very next moment.

Each week I couldn't wait to tune in to see if true love would be making headway for these two characters always bickering over whose dreams were most important at the moment.

The complete television series Homefront can now be found on DVD.

I think my sister still has all or most of the "Homefront" episodes on videotapes. I swear, one of these days I am going to borrow them and watch the entire series! Can't remember why, but I never did see it.

Wow, I don't remember this show at all! When did it air? Love your new tag, it reminded me of my Dad. When did men stop wearing hats like that? I remember my Daddy never left the house without his, he was such a classy dresser. And he always wore a top coat when it got cold, men rarely wear top coats anymore either. Sigh, thanks for the memories! Glad your heart is light today! :)

Homefront aired in the 1990's and was critically acclaimed for it's rich storytelling. At the time CBS did not think there was a market for "vintage" and pulled the show after two seasons. Anyone who ever saw the show fell immediately in love with it's characters. For over ten years fans have worked to have the series on DVD which has finally come about! All of the actors of this show have gone on to very successful careers in television. It is "MUST SEE" TV!

Hi Elizabeth, so glad to see you here! You know, all of your reasons for not blogging are why my cousin quit. Everyone has to set limits on what they can and cannot do. Blogging should be fun, not an obligation. It certainly allows me to see the positive in every day (even when dust is hovering in the sky and smothering the sun :/

I never saw Homefront. Have been in Kuwait since 1994 and we don't get all the channels that are available in the States.

Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday! Toodles for now.:) Tammy

I was fascinated to hear of this show as this is my favourite period of American history. i see now that the show was on during the time I was overseas, hence I missed it completely. I will certianly have to give it a bit of an investigation as it looks just the sort of thing i love. Thanks for the tip, the tag and for taking the time to share a bit of yourself with the rest of us!

I recognize the actors, but don't recall the show. It sounds good though! What a great tag to commemorate the show.

Oh, Elizabeth! You just made my day! I LOVED that series--didn't miss a second of it, and was so sad when it was cancelled! My husband and I still mention it sometimes! Thanks for sharing that...I'll be on the look-out for it!

Your October tag is just so perfectly reminiscent of the series--beautifully done, dear friend...love your two-sided posy...

...your new lightness-of-heart is contagious!

I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself and feeling at ease Elizabeth! That is a wonderful gift to give yourself.

Oh my goodness, I've never heard of Homefront! I had to google it and see what year it was on TV. It said 1991 - I was divorced, working and going back to school that year - no wonder I never heard of it.

I see it had an actress I loved in one of my favorite movies of all time - Sammi Davis in Hope and Glory. I'll look forward to renting it.

We're enjoying an English period drama series very much right now, Lark Rise to Candleford. You can find it on Netflix.

Happy Tuesday!
Sally

Hi Elizabeth,
I am soooo glad you decided to continue. As a newcomer to youe blog it is such a breath of fresh air for me. I love today's tag. I will have to look up that series though. I would like to watch it with my girls. I love anything vintage.

Check out my Halloween banner onmy blog. It was inspired by yours. Of course it's not of your quality but I'm just starting. Thanks for the inspiration.

Blessings,
Rhonda

Oh, yay! So glad to see you today. Great dvd recommendation- I missed that one, but it will be fun to see now. Have you seen Wind at My Back? That one is set in the
1930's...lovely sets and just a nice series. It is on Netflix, but it is sometimes still shown on tv.
Love the new art- you are so clever with the vintage images. Hugs!

I've never heard of "homefront" Elizabeth, but it looks good! I may have to look into the series on DVD!
I just caught up on your posts, and wanted to say, please don't leave us! I am always inspired when I visit you and it's because of you I have a huge pile of soft like butter wool felt from Joggles just waiting for me to find the time to create something! It's not necessary to visit me back, I'll always see you as a blog friend and craft companion! I understand what you're saying though, but if you just let it go and blog for only YOURSELF, you will find such freedom! I do have my counters and such on my blog but it doesn't bother me, sometimes I see only three people or so have visited in a day, well, that's pretty good in my book considering there are thousands and thousands of blogs! I'd probably blog even if only my daughter visited. I'm not sure why but I find it as such a creative outlet, and I know you do too, so please just let go and know that you're going to be loved and not seen as anywhere near rude by any of your favorite fans! Your stories are always so interesting and you're so talented, really, that you should write a book on felt and tag crafting for sure!

Ok well that explains it! In 1990 I had a one year old and a 3 year old. I probably crashed and burned on the couch before the prime time shows came on, lol!

Hooray for Homefront finally being on DVD...I loved that show & it is one of my favorites (have it on VHS tapes but haven't watched them in many years, plus the quality is so bad now)...at the time the show was in production I worked at the same studio and often saw the actors/actresses filming outside...fun. The 40s is my favorite era.

Oh my gosh Elizabeth! Homefront is my favorite show ever, too! I wrote a post about it long ago. I have the entire series on disc - and I just LOVE it! I had a bootlegged set forever that I got off a Homefront group site - and even signed the petitions to have show put on DVD's. Then Hubs bought me a good set! JOY! I know that I got my antique stove after seeing the show. I was just stove crazy after seeing Homefront! I just love the clothes, the music, the hair, the shoes, the food, the decorating, oh.... I love everything about Homefront! So does hubs!
