I have never been a girl of my own time. Shy and old-fashioned, modest and domestic, a reflective image in popular culture not recognizable to my own heart. Black and white images of an earlier time a perfect fit. A fun wire Party Girl easily made in an afternoon shared with you.

Oh how I longed for a poodle skirt such as the ones seen in "Father Knows Best" and "The Donna Reed Show". A ribbon spool is the perfect size to trace onto felt to make this skirt.

Wooden doll head bead, size medium, is given a simple face with craft paints and two coats of varnish. Chenille stem bent in half and hot glued into bead creates the body's base. One pink stem coiled around a sponge brush handle creates the sweater.

One half white stem, insert between coils of sweater to create base for sweater arms. Coil one third pink stem around smaller pencil. Slip onto arm and then twist coils at both ends in opposite directions with thumbs and forefingers to make coils fit snugly against arm. Cut coil when desired length is reached. Trim white chenille, and bend to form hand.

Position skirt, overlapping in back, hot glue.

Legs are created in same way as sweater arms. Third length of chenille coiled around pencil. Slip over leg base, twist both ends of coils in opposite directions to lengthen to desired size and thickness. Trim COIL if necessary. Make loop from leg stem for figure to stand, trim excess. A small piece of black felt Tacky Glued in place creates saddle shoes which I wore all through High School!

Small triangle shape, snip bangs, hot glue in place. Felt two inches wide by circumference of bead, cut slits close to one edge. Glue as shown for pony tail, or cut felt every third slit making the flat edge in the shape of a triangle which can then be hot glued in place. Pony tail is gathered on top and tied in place.

Using what was on hand, I covered ribbon spool with paper and hot glued in place. My goal is to purchase a small round box to cover and put figure on top as a Button Keep.

It was a dream come true in my High School years to have a revival of the 1950's through the release of the movies "American Graffiti" and "Grease". I wore swing skirts and saddle shoes every day. A scarf knotted around my neck positioned to the left to say that my heart was looking for true love.

These gals are so cute, from those little saddle shoes to the little record they're holding! And thank you for sharing the instructions too. I never know if it's ok to try making other blogger's creations when they post about them, but I always know that it's ok to try making yours, because you want us to try!

I always wanted a poodle skirt, too! I was about 8 when they were popular and my sister had one that I tried to sneak out of the house wearing...think about how funny that looked! A little kid with the skirt of someone 16 all rolled up at the waist! I never had one of my own. Your girls are the cutest! (I also always wanted a ponytail but my hair was too wispy and thin)
Happy Mother's Day Elizabeth!
