Early day spent with Twirly Swirly Girl, a message on our answering machine waiting for our return home. "Mom and Dad, thank you so much for coming to visit me. It was the best day ever. I just love you guys so much." Glad of heart, an evening spent in contentment.

It seems quite a few of you are building your own dollhouses and have asked how I have made my little chair.I am happy to share the process, but please know this is a one time project, and I have just let my fingers take me where they will. From the comments left, there are many sites where beautifully crafted furniture can be found.

I have used felt for my furniture and hand sewing, but fabric and machine would make for such quick work of this project. Using chipboard, I have cut two, same size, the shape for my couch. Using cardboard as pattern, cut four felt. Using first the button stitch and then again the running stitch, sew both sides of a 1/2" wide strip of felt to the cushion pieces creating back and seat of couch. (Note: I use this double sewing technique whenever I want to turn pieces so that seams won't show.)

Positioning both couch pieces together, button stitch the center edges together. Note that I have trimmed both cardboard patterns and placed them along outer edges. Stuff both pockets that have been created.

Stitch securely the center seam DO NOT CUT YOUR THREAD. This is the back seam of the couch and will be hidden by the ruffle.

Bring needle from back to just in front of back cushion piece, tack stitch back cushion piece, needle goes through center seam where you have sewn two pieces together. (I hope the picture helps! The idea is tack forward the top cushion)

You can see I have taken a few extra tacks at the edges to make the couch have a right angle.

Hooray! Your sewing is behind you now! Do you love your glue gun as much as I do mine? I have had the same little gun for 15 years now. I'm very sentimental about it. I have used a heavy weight, double wired ribbon for my ruffle. It is too wide; so I will fold under the bottom edge. Measure ribbon twice the circumference of your couch. Crimp the top edge with very tiny pleats.

Beginning in center back of couch, hot glue ribbon just below top seam of bottom cushion. This will create a thin well your piping will rest nicely in. Glue on piping as shown, stop for arms to be made and attached.

Having made so many pegdoll arms, I decided to use the same technique for the arms of the couch. I have covered a small button with extra ribbon, rolled felt around button to find glue line, thin bead of glue, cut excess felt away.

Measure arms to couch, and cut at a slight curve as pictured. Hot glue seams together. A bead of glue on back and bottom seams, attach to couch.

Hot glue piping in place covering arm seam. There you have it. The ruffle is sturdy enough to hold the couch firmly in place, but little wooden balls painted for legs would be so cute as well.

Truly such fun to create this little house. Did you notice the wall sconces? They are vintage candle holders with the tips cut off and filled with a pearl! I just love the minty green ones in the first photo!

It is time to set aside my little house for a time. I am already imagining a mini book to make about this little house - too cute! Valentine's Day is nearly here. A gift box of chocolates has inspired a new penny rug to create. Valentines last minute to make and the most wonderful White Velvet Sugar Valentine cookies to share!

Elizabeth you are just too amazing. I now think there isn't anything you can't just run up if need be. That couch is a work of art no kidding. Nan
Hi Elizabeth. My dear, it is all incredible. Love the bed and the expressions are so sweet on these girls. You must be the calmest person around. I can't focus on one thing and you're like miracle woman.
You: Oh' I think I'll make a house of furniture today. Pattern, what pattern, pshaw who needs one not me. You're mind is amazing. You're an inspiration or is it frustration, ha-ha, because I will never be able to do that. And you seem to get so much done, I still think you house is full of little fairy brownie thingy elves that come in every night. LOL.
Love and hugs...Tracy :)
Really Elizabeth......do you eat, shower, sleep????? Have you left your home in the past week??? LOL My goodness you just keep churnin' like a machine, and I guess we wouldn't have it any other way. Please do take a day off or two, though....if only to dream up more fantastical fun for us.
Love ya,
Meri
Adorable! I was wondering how you made the couch. I have a doll house to put together still and hope it's half as sweet as yours when I'm finally done.
Oh wow! You're so talented!!!
Your doll house is so inspiring! I just love the October Afternoon dresser!!!! It makes me want to dress up a little house too!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, Lindsey
The House is sure looking more complete, they have quite the decorator. I do love how creative you are in using things around the house to make this sweet Doll House. Hugs, Diane
How cute! Many years ago before kids I bought a pattern booklet on making fabric doll furniture...have I made any of them yet? Nope. Even 'tho I have girls and dollhouses now. I may just have a go at this.
I adore your little settee! Thank you so much for sharing how you made it, that's really clever!
have a great Sunday

Unbelieveable - as I have said before "You are Amazing". What an inspiration - you will have all of us running out to buy dollhouses!
You really are inspiring me to get my doll house out to play with. How adorable yours is. I've been playing dolls and making doll houses since I was little! Im feeling a new post coming on... again inspired by you!
xoxoxoxoxo!
Projects born out of creative intuition are hard to explain . . .but you did so beautifully, Elizabeth! Thanks for sharing! I'm always so curious about the process. I love your little house!
Your little cottage has turned out to be a welcoming, cozy place to be! I always love your instructions but I've decided that for this one...I shouldn't try this at home. I'll leave it to the expert-YOU! When my daughter left home to be on her own, she left behind the dollhouse that my father made for her. It's a large, "to scale" house and it sits downstairs in our basement. I think I need to pull it out and assess what needs to be done to bring it back to life. I won't be making any furniture but the thought of wallpapering with some favorite Cosmo or October Afternoon papers brings excitement. You do bring an over-abundance of inspiration. The call from your daughter-it's what every parent longs to hear!!!
Simply amazing craftsmanship :o) The whole thing is absolutly adorable. Love it.

I bought some "Country Critters" for my nieces birthday and just looking at all those fuzzy animal families made me want my own! I would have to hide it from my husband though, he thinks I'm nuts for wanting a dollhouse.

OH E! "However do you manage it?" (a favorite quote from Mary Poppins). That's IT! That's who you remind me of...you just keep pulling amazing things out of your creative "carpet bag"...and each more amazing than the last! Furniture?!? Wow...it's all so adorable. Of course, I LOVE the bookcase and can't wait to see what volumes fill the shelves.
Incredible...you are walking, talking, breathing inspiration! Soooooooooo wowed by you!
What a professionally done project. Martha Steward should have you on her show.
Dollhouse people are some of the most creative people I know. Birthday candle holders, what inspiration!
Cute, cute, cute! I love how you needed a couch, so you just whipped one up! And the sconces, brilliant idea!
Surely you didn't make the hutch and bookcase?! They look like wood.

Your doll cottage is the sweetest thing I've seen in ages...I'd love to spend a day there myself!
Oh Elizabeth! Your dollhouse is so charming! I keep looking and finding a detail I hadn't seen before. So darling!
So precious!
I love every little detail....
You are such a talented soul - thank you for making my morning sweet.
